Local Mission Projects

School Supplies Supplied by Federated

Every August members of the Federated congregation collect and pack school supplies in backpacks for more than 200 DeKalb County kids who could not afford the tools they need to learn.

The Board of Mission and Society and Sharon McKee, a teacher in the DeKalb School District and a church member, gather the backpacks and the donated supplies and distribute them to Hope Haven, Safe Passage and the Salvation Army.

“This has become one of the most important missions of our church,” said Charles Sigwart, a longtime participant and leader in the program. “These kids depend on us and we never want to let them down.”

Feed My Sheep

On the first Sunday of every month, we collect nonperishable items for our local food pantry. The items can be placed in the grocery cart in Dutton Hall. Suggestions are 100 percent fruit juice, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, macaroni and cheese or other items you would enjoy on your own table.

We act as God’s hands when we reach out to help those in our community.

HELP WANTED:  Seeking volunteer to deliver groceries to the Food Pantry on a regular basis. Call Liz at 815-895-2706 or Charles Sigwart at 815-756-3028.

Learn To Be a Caregiver to Others

If you regularly take time to help a loved one with errands, personal care, living arrangements, financial and legal concerns or other activities, you are a caregiver. Care giving can be stressful—physically, emotionally and financially.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to provide you—the caregiver—with the tools needed to take care of yourself. You will learn how to:

  • Reduce Stress
  • Improve Self Confidence
  • Better communicate your feelings
  • Balance your life
  • Increase ability to make tough decisions
  • Learn to locate helpful resources

Classes consist of six, 1 ½ hour sessions held once a week. Two experienced class leaders will conduct each session. Interactive lessons, discussions and brainstorming will help you take the tools you choose and put them into action in your life.
